Mantle decorations are difficult for me! I love to have our mantle looking dressed for all the holidays and even just to get through the winter. In the past year and a half, I’ve made an effort to add something out of the ordinary to our mantle. For the months of February through May, I like to add some items representing the events celebrated during that time period.
Last year I added the word “LOVE” along with other decor items. The pop of gold against our brick thrills me. Remember February is the “Love Month”! Also, this year I chose to hang the forsythia wreath from Kirkland’s Home on our Federal mirror. (It was a bit tricky as the suction cup pulled loose just about the time the photos were completed. Not quite that is!) If you viewed the Christmas Holiday Mantle that I posted in December, you will recognize the hurricane lamp by Kirkland’s. This time it has a battery powered candle instead of the ornaments. I love the flicker of the candles and the battery ones work really well and are great if you have a power outage.
The Kirkland’s lantern also has a battery candle in it. I really enjoy those candles more without overhead lighting. The glow from them is welcoming and soothing at the same time. This lantern is one of my favorite purchases ever as I can see so many places to use it.
The faux greenery Kirkland’s arrangement of grass and ivy makes a wonderful statement on either end of the mantle. Usually I have one on the first floor and the other on the second in the master bedroom. I find there are so many places to use the greenery only containers, even though I do have some floral arrangements . I’ve noticed that the quality of faux arrangements has greatly improved over the past few years. These are available online, too. Recently, I’ve found that it makes a nice gift for those friends or family that you don’t know what colors are in their homes.
