Oh my goodness, you just arrived in time to see the changes since my Christmas mantle was broken down. Aren’t you feeling the need to have a change inside your home? Maybe it’s the weather…whatever it is…it’s time for a new look. Got the new hairdo last week…this week the family room hearth area. Moving backwards to show you how empty it was after all the holiday items were removed.
Looks deserted, as if no one lived here anymore. Don’t know about you, but that bare look depresses me no end. At that point, there was a lot to do. I’m going to show you the good and bad. Some new items, that had been stashed away for the time they would be showcased. Sadly one or two will have to go back into storage for another time…just not this time.
Sometimes it’s just not the right scale. And this time that large “HOME” got taken away to storage. It seemed to be taking the best out of the French canvas art from Hobby Lobby. Yes, that canvas brings back fond memories of a long ago trip to Paris…just the two of us and about 6 other businessmen dining on a boat on the Seine River.
Notice the addition of the old platter with blue along the verge…so gorgeous! Also, now that blue is becoming a new favorite color, the blue and white pitcher reflects the pitcher from the canvas. Notice the stamped leather chest with a strand of beads pouring out of it. Thinking of Mardi Gras and all the fun…I surely am!
Zooming in for a closer look to compare the mantle decor and the objects in the canvas. Artichoke, pitcher, urn, and the black wooden “Paris” seemed perfect.
Now it’s time to grab a good book and one of the throws and enjoy a cold evening by the fire. The copper tone tub stores magazines and sometimes toys!
Hope you have enjoyed your visit.
Thinking “April In Paris”…it’s a good thought! I highly recommend it; especially the Lalique shop. And no, they did not take credit cards, but amazingly took personal checks, and no ID requested! We lived in the Houston, TX area and had to show ID to pay by check for groceries. Hard to believe thousands of miles away and they took checks. (The next year, Bob returned with a list and once again…no credit cards, and welcomed his personal check from Houston!) Bob and I arrived early and took a bus tour of the city. We rode the Metro and then while he was in business meetings, I dared to go alone with my Metro stop map. Suddenly a crowd was gathered and a lovely German lady, explained to me that the President of France, Valery Giscard d’Estaing, was about to leave his home just across the street from where we stood. Imagine all of our gathered group, when the car pulled out of the palace yard and the President of France, got out and stood in the middle of the street staring at us. Suddenly a cab arrived and he hailed it, got in and rode away. The Frenchmen could not believe that I just happened upon the palace at the right time. Oh, and I was quite American and waved at him….not one other soul waved.
