Just a look back in time about 25 years ago this month, we moved into this home with this dark family room and a dark brick fireplace to go with it! Ugh! What were we thinking or rather why had the original owner chosen such dark stain for the paneling along with the dark brick? See how the change took place 18 years after we moved in…yes, a long time!
Hope you are continuing the celebration of Christmas for a while longer. Do you keep your decorations up until after New Year’s Day? Our family has always enjoyed extending the celebrations of the season. This year was one, when it seemed only right to add a few unusual items and accessories.
Many years, we have enjoyed the beauty of that simple terra cotta nativity. And this season, it seemed only natural to place it on the old silver shawl that draped the mantle.
Did you happen to read the scrolled script and see the words clearly? “There’s no place like home for the holidays! I’ll add to that by saying either home or at the home of those you hold dear! That piece was found at Kirkland’s Home about three years ago. Holly decorations always attract my attention and this one really is lovely. Also, the pair of sitting silver deer had to be there…they seemed to grab the feel of the room needed this year. They were a wonderful “find” at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store a couple of years ago. FYI, Cracker Barrel had similar ones somewhat smaller this year, too. The red and green lumbar pillows needed to come home with me. Y’all do know that moment when you must have something just right for the family room. Yeah, they were needed. And they were also under $6 each from one of my favorite stores, Ross Dress For Less. They definitely have more than clothing. Also, there’s often many styles of topiaries at Ross Dress For Less, TJ Maxx, and Hobby Lobby.
I do realize that this is a simple mantle compared to my previous mantle displays, but this one was perfect for this year. I have enjoyed the simplicity of it along with the Michael Delacroix prints we enjoy year round. Thanks for visiting and I would enjoy having you follow my blog.
Wishing you a joyful New Year 2014!
